Memphis Depay and Paul Pogba are the first set of players to react to the verdict issued by the court on Benjamin Mendy's rape allegation.

The former Manchester City defender was found not guilty by the Chester Crown Court on Friday, July 14, 2023. The France International was accused of raping a woman at his home in Cheshire in October 2020. He was also charged with the attempted rape of a 29-year-old woman at his home two years earlier.

Benjamin Mendy has always denied both charges, he was found not guilty by the jury of six men and six women at Chester Crown Court. According to the defender, the encounters he had with every one of them were consensual.

Memphis Depay reacted to the news on his official Twitter account hours after Mendy was declared a free man.

"Benjamin Mendy, All cases dismissed. So what are we doing now? Who is going to help this brother heal? Who’s going to be Responsable for the damage on he’s name? How he’s going to have he’s career back?
Many years of investment to become a professional football player…. Now what!? I’ve never touched on this subject because I didn’t know all the details, but I’ve spoken to him once true FaceTime while behind bars and faced him on the pitch a couple times.. I didn’t see any evil in the man. We can’t accept this to happen to us as athletes. Who’s going to stand up for us in the time of need not when the damage is already done? Don’t turn your head people."

Paul Pogba also reacted to the news on his official Instagram account. The French international posted a screenshot of both of them on a call with this caption.

"Al Hamdullilah 🤲🏾 so happy for you bro .. all the people that was talking bad about you NoW I wanna see them cleaning your name. Can’t wait to see on the pitch again."

Mendy became the Premier League's most expensive defender when he joined City from Monaco for £52m in 2017. He won three titles with City and was part of France's World Cup-winning squad in 2018.
