Following the 'hostage situation' ahead of the AFCON 2025 qualifier, Libya vs Nigeria, more questions have emerged after it was confirmed that the President of the Libyan Football Federation, Abdelhakim Al-Shalmani, had tendered in his resignation the same Sunday, October 13, 2024, the Super Eagles landed in the country.

Why did the President of the Libyan Football Federation resign?
During a regular meeting of the General Assembly, the President of the Libyan Football Federation, Abdelhakim Al-Shalmani, announced his resignation, stating, "I do not wish to be associated with the failures in Libyan sports."
He acknowledged the challenges faced in recent times and expressed gratitude to all General Assembly members, adding, "I hold no grievances against anyone within the sports community." The meeting took place on Sunday.
Al-Shalmani also emphasized his confidence in his past contributions, remarking, "I have an established history with the International, Arab, and African Federations, which is undeniable."
