Liverpool Football Club might be forced to go into the market when the transfer window opens on Monday, January 1, 2024, to find a replacement for Joel Matip.

The manager of the club, Jurgen Klopp confirmed the injury to the player during a post-match press conference after the victory against Sheffield United at Bramall Lane on Wednesday, December 6, 2023.

Joel Matip seems to have played what seems like his last game for Liverpool after he picked up the injury against Fulham on Sunday, December 3, 2023. Klopp confirmed that the player had a ruptured ACL and he might be ruled out for the rest of the season.

"It’s an ACL, ruptured, that is unfortunately what I expected from the first second. It looked like that. Very unfortunate, but that’s it.’

The Merseyside club are not sure of how long Matip’s injury will take but he will require surgery and is likely to miss the remainder of this season. He had started nine of 15 Premier League games this season.

This means injury has increased the list of absentees for Liverpool, who is also without Andy Robertson, Thiago Alcantara, Alisson, Stefan Bajcetic and Diogo Jota.
