The Egyptian Football Association (EFA), led by President Hany Abo Rida, has officially lodged a complaint against French referee François Letexier and his officiating team following Egypt's controversial defeat at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Reports from Egypt believes that several key decisions made by Letexier and his assistants had a significant impact on the outcome of the match. The complaint reportedly highlights concerns over officiating standards and requests that FIFA review the referee's performance.
The decision comes after widespread debate among Egyptian fans and football pundits, with many questioning several calls made during the game.
FIFA has yet to issue an official response to the complaint.
The incident adds another chapter to the controversy surrounding the tournament, with refereeing decisions continuing to attract intense scrutiny as the World Cup progresses.

What happened between Egypt and Argentina?
Mostafa Zico's disallowed goal:
With Egypt leading, Zico appeared to have doubled the advantage, but after a VAR review, the goal was ruled out because of a foul by Marwan Attia on Lisandro Martínez earlier in the build-up. Egypt argued the foul was too far removed from the goal and questioned why VAR intervened.
Denied penalty appeal on Mohamed Salah:
In stoppage time, Egypt appealed for a penalty after Salah went down following a challenge from Julián Álvarez inside the box. Referee Letexier waved play on, VAR did not send him to review the incident, and Argentina immediately launched the counterattack that ended with Enzo Fernández scoring the winning goal.
Egypt believes there was an inconsistent application of VAR between this incident and the disallowed goal.
