The Community Shield is the curtain-raiser for the Premier League 2023/24 football season that kicks off on August 11, 2023.
This time around it’s treble-winners Manchester City and last season’s Premier League runners-up Arsenal who meet at Wembley, challenging for the first silverware of the new campaign. Traditionally, the Community Shield sees the winners of the Premier League take on the holders of the FA Cup. However, City won both of these trophies last season, and it means they will take on the Premier League runners-up in the form of Arsenal.
This was not just a friendly match between two teams that finished first and second last season on the league table. It was all about the bragging rights for both clubs as they look to build confidence for their supporters ahead of the new season.
Arsenal and Manchester City started the game in fantastic form in the first half but none of them were able to score a goal. The best two chances of the first half fell to the former Chelsea player, Kai Havertz who failed to score the opening goal of the game.
The second half started the same way as the first ended with City taking more possession than the Gunners. However, Manchester City's youngster Cole Palmer scored the broke the deadlock the 88th minute of the game.

Mikel Arteta had bullets left in his Gun as Trossard scored a late-minute equaliser in the 11th minute of additional time to send the game into penalties. Kevin De Bruyne and Rodri missed their penalties which ensured Arsenal won the game 4-3 on penalties to become Champions of the Community Shield.
This is the second Community Shield and third trophy in total for Mikel Arteta since he joined Arsenal in 2019, it is also the 17th Community Shield number in Arsenal's history.
