Barcelona have reportedly agreed a deal to sign Gabriel Jesus from Arsenal in a stunning late transfer move that could see the Brazilian forward make a fresh start in La Liga.
The Catalan giants have turned to Jesus after their pursuit of Atlético Madrid striker Julián Álvarez became increasingly complicated. Barcelona are now understood to have reached an agreement with Arsenal for the experienced forward, with the transfer reportedly worth around €10 million plus add-ons.
Why is Gabriel Jesus leaving Arsenal?
Jesus has struggled to establish himself as a regular starter at Arsenal, particularly after the arrival of Viktor Gyökeres and the continued presence of Kai Havertz in Mikel Arteta's attacking options. His situation at the Emirates has opened the door for Barcelona to make their move.
The Brazilian joined Arsenal from Manchester City in 2022 and has produced moments of quality during his time in north London. However, injuries and inconsistency have prevented him from reaching the level many expected when he first arrived.
This move to Barcelona could now provide Jesus with the opportunity to rebuild his reputation on the European stage. His ability to play as a central striker or from either flank could also give Hansi Flick greater flexibility in attack.
However for Arsenal, the transfer would represent another significant departure as Arteta continues to reshape his squad. For Barcelona, meanwhile, Jesus could prove to be a relatively inexpensive signing with the experience required to contribute immediately.
