The National Basketball Association today, Thursday, April 6, 2023, announced a member of the 21st-century pop icon group BTS, Suga, as a representative of the game and the body. The NBA, in an official statement, confirmed that Suga would play an active role in engaging NBA fans worldwide for the remainder of the 2022/2023 season.
The NBA's statement read:
As an NBA Ambassador, SUGA will engage NBA fans around the world through the remainder of the 2022-23 NBA season and beyond. SUGA, an avid NBA fan, will participate in several league initiatives that will be featured on the NBA’s and his personal social media channels, including attending NBA games and events in the U.S. and Asia, and participating in the league’s promotional activities.
Additionally, the NBA will have a presence throughout SUGA’s first solo world tour, collaborating around select concerts in celebration of the release of SUGA’s debut solo album, D-DAY. SUGA has featured basketball in several of BTS’ projects, most notably in the music video for the group’s global hit “Dynamite,” which in 2020 earned the group their first appearance at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
The rapper who is scheduled to release a new album titled D-Day in April 2023 and is also scheduled to embark on a world tour with tickets already sold out for major venues in the US, Japan, Singapore, Korea and Thailand, could not hide his excitement about the news as he took to his social media platform to share the announcement and also tell fans to stay tuned for more to come.
Suga has been an avid fan of the game of basketball, a fact he has continued to point out on numerous occasions, for example, in his early days in BTS and also by attending major games such as Kobe Byrant's tribute by LA Lakers, Golden State Warrior's game in Japan and the Mavericks game in the US as well.
