Simi speaks on women competing in music, advocates for unity

Popular Nigerian singer, Simi has spoken out about the divisive nature of female competition within the music industry.

During a recent appearance on a foreign podcast hosted by Angela Yee on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, Simi, whose real name is Simi Bolatito Kosoko discussed the detrimental effects of rivalry among women in music.

Expressing her views on the podcast, Simi highlighted how competition can escalate unnecessarily, causing distractions and tension. She emphasized the importance of unity among female artists, stating that they all have the potential to thrive without resorting to rivalry.

The Men Are Crazy crooner also pointed out that comparisons between artists intensify when new talents emerge, further fueling competition. Despite this, she praised collaborations between female artists, specifically mentioning her appreciation for her own collaboration with Tiwa Savage.

The discussion follows recent headlines surrounding Simi addressing flirtatious remarks about her from producer, Samklef and singer, Brymo. Samklef had previously claimed responsibility for Simi's success on X, sparking controversy. However, Simi responded by stating that she does not know who Samklef is, dismissing the allegations.
