Rema is raising a thought-provoking question about Afrobeats global success.
In a recent interview, Rema expressed concern that Afrobeats artists might be sacrificing their unique sound in a bid to cater to Western audiences.
"With the success that has come to Afrobeats, I feel like we are listening to the voices of the world too much," Rema says. " ignoring the voices back home." He continues. Rema highlights the importance of staying true to Afrobeats' roots while embracing its global appeal.
This isn't the first time Rema has spoken about the importance of Afrobeats' identity. At the 16th Headies Awards, he emphasized unity within the genre and supporting Nigerian music institutions.
Also in his recent album release, Rema says multiple times that he didn't pattern it to the west.
