Portable arrested over unpaid car debt drama

Nigerian singer and street-pop sensation, Habeeb Okikiola, famously known as Portable, has once again found himself in the spotlight, this time for all the wrong reasons.

The controversial artist was apprehended by Nigerian police on Tuesday, May 14, 2024, following a series of events involving an alleged unpaid debt related to a luxury vehicle purchase.

Reports circulating online indicate that Portable's troubles stem from a transaction with Unique Motors, where he purportedly acquired a black Mercedes-Benz GLE 350. According to emerging details, the singer had made a down payment of N13 million for the car, which had a total price tag of N27 million. However, complications arose when Portable's vehicle was involved in an accident, prompting the car dealer to demand full payment for the repairs.

Subsequent attempts by Temi Motors to recover the outstanding balance or repossess the vehicle allegedly went unanswered, leading to a petition being filed against the Zazu crooner. In a leaked letter of undertaking reportedly agreed upon on January 11, 2024, it was revealed that Portable still owed N14 million to the car dealer.

The situation escalated further when police officers arrived at the scene armed with a warrant for Portable's arrest. In a dramatic turn of events captured on video and widely circulated on social media, the singer was seen attempting to evade custody by jumping a gate. Despite his efforts, Portable was eventually apprehended and taken into custody by law enforcement authorities.

This latest development has once again put Portable in the spotlight, albeit for less flattering reasons, as fans and observers await further updates on the unfolding saga.
