'Me and You' is a conversation with God - Tems

Grammy Award winner, Tems in a recent interview opened up on how special her first single in two years titled 'Me and You' is to her.

The award-winning artist, Tems, graced BBC 1Xtra as a special guest of Remi Burgz. During her interview, she revealed that her recent hit single was a conversation between her and God.

Since 2021, Temilade Openiyi, known as Tems, has maintained a packed schedule. She contributed to the musical score for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, co-wrote Rihanna's 'Lift Me Up', and clinched her first Grammy award for her part in Future's chart-topping single, 'Wait For U'.

Tems released Me & You on October 5, 2023 however during her interview Tems said the song was initially recorded two years ago, "I made this song two or three days after we shot the video for essence. So this song was actually created in 2021".

"This whole song was my freestyle with words. When I freestyle I kind of black out into a different world where I am really expressing my soul. As I was freestyling I was just having a conversation with God in my mind"

Tems directed and produced the music video for "Me & You" herself, stating, "I was like why can't I do it. I said why can't I produce, why can't I direct". Tems also spoke about her two-year hiatus in which she toured in Australia. Tems spoke about the global dominance and widespread reception of Afrobeats, expressing her amazement, "It was insane. I think it's incredible that you can go to the other side of the world and see people playing Afrobeats"
