Joeboy exits Empawa, sets up Young Legend Entertainment in partnership with Warner Music

Nigerian singer and songwriter, Joseph Akinwale popularly known as Joeboy has officially parted ways with fellow singer, Mr Eazi's EMPAWA record label after a successful five-year stint.

Following an official announcement today, Friday, February 2, 2024, the departure of Joeboy from EMPAWA is accompanied by a strategic dual deal with global music powerhouse, Warner Music, renowned for housing industry giants like Ed Sheeran, Cardi B, Burna Boy, and Ckay.

Under this new agreement, Joeboy not only steps into the spotlight as Warner Music's latest flagship artist from Africa but also unveils his own entertainment venture, Young Legend. The self-owned label marks a bold move for the artist, who is set to take on the role of CEO, while Deola Jaiyesimi assumes the position of Head of the Label. Together, they aim to propel the next wave of Afrobeats superstars onto the global stage.

During his tenure at EMPAWA, the Afrobeat star achieved remarkable success, releasing two EPs namely, Love & Light and Body, Soul & Spirit and two albums titled Somewhere Between Beauty & Magic and Body & Soul. His catalogue includes a multitude of hit singles and collaborations, amassing over 2 billion cumulative streams across various digital streaming platforms.

Following in the footsteps of industry veterans like Olamide, Don Jazzy, and his former label boss, Mr. Eazi, Joeboy's Young Legend label positions itself as a vital conduit for nurturing and launching emerging talents in the vibrant Afrobeats scene.

This strategic move underlines Joeboy's commitment to not only shaping his own artistic destiny but also fostering the next generation of musical luminaries.
