Nigerian singer, Seun Kuti has lambasted the Lagos state government for not planting fruit trees in the city, leaving citizens without access to fresh fruit.
In an Instagram livestream on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, Kuti expressed his frustration, recalling a time when various fruit trees were abundant in the environment.
He accused the government of cutting down trees, leaving the poor to suffer. Kuti argued that planting fruit trees would not cost the government anything and would provide a vital source of food for hungry citizens. He referenced a 2020 incident where the government faced criticism for attempting to cut down trees in Ikoyi for a construction project.
While the Lagos government announced plans to plant trees in 2022, Kuti's comments suggest that little progress has been made.
