The Headies Awards and its Organizers announced the return of the prestigious award ceremony to Nigeria, following two consecutive editions held in Atlanta, Georgia.

After this huge announcement, the Headies founder revealed the reason for this drastic move back to Nigeria. In an interview with Arise News, Mr. Ayo Animashaun, the Executive Producer of the Headies, explained that the decision to bring the event back to Nigeria was driven by the overwhelming request from Nigerians. He emphasized the importance of heeding the desires of the people when serving them, stating, "I realized When you are doing something for the people and it's a sacrifice and not for yourself, you have to listen to the people. They said they wanted the awards back home."

Animashaun also revealed that taking the awards to Atlanta, Georgia, was a strategic move that prevented the demise of the ceremony. "If we hadn't taken the awards out of Nigeria, it would have died," he explained, shedding light on the rationale behind holding the 15th and 16th editions in the United States.

During the interview, Ayo Animashaun highlighted that over the past two years, the Headies received significant backing from the US embassy in Nigeria. This support included hosting parties and facilitating visas for Nigerians to participate in the event. He underscored the role played by the American embassy in influencing the decision to relocate the show outside Nigeria.

As the Headies prepares to host its 17th edition back in Nigeria, Animashaun appealed to the Nigerian government for support towards the award show. The Ceremony has no official date yet.
