Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy

Ghanaian Dancehall and reggae artiste, Stonebwoy, has been arrested for pulling a gun at his industry colleague, Shatta Wale at the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) 2019.

According to reports making the rounds, the gun-pulling happened after Stonebwoy was announced as the winner for the category of "Reggae/Dancehall Artiste of the Year"; an award he is winning for the fifth time consecutively.

The circulating news stated that while Stonebwoy was about to give his acceptance speech, Shatta Wale started making his way towards the stage to Stonebwoy. The purpose for that move was not known but it didn't take long before members from both Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy's camp started throwing blows at each other.

It was during this crisis that the winner of the Reggae/ Dancehall category pulled out a gun at Shatta Wale which his crew tried to shield from the public but wasn't successful as the video made its way to the viral spot on social media.

Shatta Wale's intention for walking up the stage to Stonebwoy's direction was not known but according to Stonebwoy while later giving his speech, his action of pulling out a gun was instinctive considering the bad blood between both dancehall artistes which has lasted for over a year so far.

He said;

“I’m really sorry for the incident that happened earlier on and I only had to react out of natural instincts because we all know how premeditative some people can be. We’ve seen on social media the treats and everything so we couldn’t come in unprepared because anything could have happened like you guys saw,” he said.

Stonebwoy added that “I come in peace and I go in peace and I apologize to the whole masses of Ghana that the Awards is going to continue. Thank you very much for supporting my music, for supporting everybody else’s music…by their deeds we have all seen.”

After the fracas, Stonebwoy was later seen being cuffed at the VGMA with videos of the arrest making its due rounds on social media.
