Grammy-winning Nigerian artist Burna Boy has extended a heartfelt gesture of support to the families affected by a tragic mass shooting in Stockton, California, promising to cover the full funeral expenses for all four young victims.

The shooting occurred on November 29, 2025 during a children’s birthday party, leaving three children aged 8, 9, and 14, along with a 21-year-old, dead, while 11 others were injured. The violence sent shockwaves through the community and drew national attention.

According to Stockton Vice Mayor Jason Lee, Burna Boy reached out immediately upon learning of the tragedy, expressing his sorrow and desire to help the grieving families. In a statement, the Afrobeats superstar said, “When I heard about the children murdered in Stockton, my heart broke. No family should ever face this kind of pain alone. I wanted to do whatever I could to support these parents as they begin the long process of healing.”

The decision was reportedly influenced by the story of 14-year-old Amari Peterson, a standout student-athlete with a 3.8 GPA whose life was cut short. Burna Boy’s team confirmed that he would fully fund the funeral arrangements for all four victims.

Burna Boy, who is known for his philanthropic work through initiatives like the REACH Nigeria Foundation, has previously supported vulnerable communities in his hometown of Port Harcourt. His gesture in Stockton has been met with mixed reactions online. Many praised his swift action and compassion, while some critics questioned why he extended help abroad amid Nigeria’s ongoing security challenges.

The Stockton shooting, which unfolded at a local banquet hall, remains under investigation. Authorities have yet to confirm the motive, and the search for the perpetrators continues. Amid the city’s grief, Burna Boy’s intervention has provided a measure of relief to the affected families and highlighted the global reach of humanitarian support.
