The BET Awards have released their full nominations list, and Burna Boy is one of the heavy hitters. He even has more nominations than J Cole.

Burna Boy has been stepping into the international limelight since the release of his hit album African Giant. Since he dropped that project, his international acclaim has only been on the uptick. His latest project, I Told Them is a success hurtling around the globe.

During the promotion of the album, he expressed some incendiary opinions about the afrobeats genre. He claimed that there isn’t much substance in the genre and that he is the pioneer of ‘afro-fusion’. This has polarised his fanbase into two groups. Those who feel offended by this dismissal of a global genre and those who agree with him.
