Brymo tells Burna Boy to quit pop scene

Nigerian music has a new chapter in the ongoing saga between Brymo and Burna Boy.

Brymo reignited the feud with a series of accusations and pronouncements on his Instagram story. The controversy began in September 2023 when Brymo accused Burna Boy of plagiarizing his unreleased work in the hit song City Boy. Now, Brymo claims Burna Boy can't stop seeking his attention, despite Burna Boy's international success with a Grammy Award.

Brymo then advises Burna Boy to abandon pop music entirely and "take a cause and focus" on something more meaningful. With a self-proclaimed "deity level" status, Brymo offered to help Burna Boy, but only if Burna Boy asks "like a man and respectfully."

This isn't the first time the two have clashed. In April 2024, Brymo took aim at Burna Boy in an interview, declaring himself superior and refusing to be signed by labels owned by Burna Boy or other Afrobeats stars. Burna Boy has responded minimally, with veiled shots in his lyrics and social media posts.

Whether Brymo's claims hold weight or are simply a publicity stunt remains to be seen. One thing's for sure: the drama between these two Afrobeats artists isn't over yet.
