Nigerian singer, actor, entrepreneur and politician, Bankole Wellington, popularly known as Banky W, has urged the Federal Government of Nigeria to make NYSC optional.
The singer, who is running for the federal house of representatives for the second time, in an interview with Channels TV, made it known that the National Youth Service Corps, a mandatory program for Nigerian graduates to engage in nation-building and the development of the country, is no longer serving its purpose.

Banky W stated that most graduates these days are not interested in the program and, therefore, bribe officials in order not to participate. The singer opined that it is better to make it optional for people who are interested in it in order to save government resources that can be used for other developments in society.
