Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso has provided an update on Maxence Lacroix after the defender suffered a suspected hamstring injury during the Carabao Cup defeat against Liverpool.

The French centre-back was forced off before half-time at Anfield on Wednesday after experiencing discomfort while tracking Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo. He was subsequently replaced by Levi Colwill.

Xabi Alonso gave an update on Lacroix during his pre-match press conference ahead of the crucial Premier League game against Manchester United. The French defender was in clear discomfort as he left the pitch to be replaced by Levi Colwill at the end of the first half, and Alonso confirmed the nature of the French defender's injury after the game.

"It’s too early to tell how serious it is. Unfortunately, he felt something in his hamstring, and we need a couple of days to check what the injury’s going to be." He said after the game against Liverpool at Anfield.

Chelsea face defensive concerns ahead of Manchester United Clash
Lacroix's injury comes at a difficult time for Chelsea, with the Blues preparing for their Premier League meeting with Manchester United on Saturday, October 31.

The defender has been an important figure for Alonso this season, making regular appearances in Chelsea's starting lineup. His potential absence would leave the manager with another selection problem as the team attempts to recover from consecutive defeats against Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool.

Chelsea will have to wait for further medical assessments before confirming the extent of the injury and how long Lacroix could be sidelined.
