Numerous reactions have dominated social media following the controversial and questionable statements by Lionel Messi and other players following the world cup 2022 win over the Netherlands.
Following the victory of Argentina over the Netherlands on penalties, reactions have trailed the post-match conference of the Argentine players over the officiating and the opponents.
Emiliano Martinez, who was the goalkeeper of the Argentine side, made a controversial statement that read:
"The referee was giving everything to them. He gave 10 minutes for no reason... He (the referee) just wanted them to score. He is useless. Van Gaal said they have an advantage if it goes to penalties; he needs to keep his mouth shut."
Lautaro Martinez also revealed that he felt as though some decisions had been weird and Argentina did not deserve to go to penalties.

“Some of the decisions were weird but that is for other people to talk about. We played and we didn’t deserve to go to penalty kicks. We have a great goalkeeper and he showed it.”
Lionel Messi also said in his post-match conference:
“I think that FIFA cannot use this referee for this type of match because he is not up to the task.”
