The American retired from the first round of Wimbledon last year due to an injury during the game. Serena lost this year's game a 7-5 1-6 7-6 (10-7) against Harmony. She also spoke about her zeal to get better and look forward to playing in the US Open.
I am just playing for right now and seeing how I feel, take it from there. Who knows where I will pop? There's definitely lots of motivation to play better and at home (the US Open). Physically I did pretty good. The last couple of points I was really suffering. If you are playing week in week out there's a bit more match toughness.
The American, whose only matches in the past year were last week's two doubles, broke early in the third but tenacious Tan soon pegged her back.
