William Troost-Wkong completes his move to Saudi Arabia

Former captain of the Super Eagles William Troost-Ekong has officially joined Qatari side Al-Ahli Sports Club.

This move is the start of the a fresh chapter in his career after parting ways with Saudi Pro League outfit Al-Kholood. The Nigerian international makes the switch within the Middle East, continuing his journey in the Gulf region after a brief stint in Saudi.

The 31-year-old centre-back is one of Africa’s most experienced defenders and arrives at Al-Ahli with a strong reputation for leadership and consistency. He has previously played across several European leagues, including spells in the Netherlands, Belgium, Norway, Turkey, and England, before moving to the Middle East.

Ekong had initially announced his retirement from thr Super Eagles ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations which came as a shock to the football stakeholders in Nigeria. However his elxperience at club level, combined with his commanding presence at the back, was a key factor in Al-Ahli’s decision to secure his services.

The move to the Qatar Stars League is expected to help him maintain match fitness and competitive sharpness ahead of upcoming international tournaments and World Cup qualification fixtures.
