The men's team for Nigeria will be missing out on the tournament for the second time since the last qualification for the Summer Olympics 2016 which was held in Brazil.

The absence of Nigeria in the men's football competition at the Olympics 2024 which will take place in Paris in July, is a result of the fact that the team failed to qualify for the competition after they suffered a 2-0 defeat to Guinea in the qualifiers.

How did the men's team for Nigeria miss out on the Olympics 2024?

The men's team for Nigeria which is often represented by the U-23 squad failed to qualify for the 2023 U-23 Africa Cup of Nations which also doubles up as the Olympics qualifiers. Nigeria in the two-legged fixture against Guinea failed to defeat the team after playing a goalless draw in the first leg and then suffering a 2-0 defeat in the second leg of the qualifiers.

The team which was led by Salisu Yusuf who also failed to secure qualification for Japan 2020 has continued to struggle since their last success at Brazil 2016 Olympics.

Following a remarkable qualification for the Olympics for the first time in over 12 years, the Super Falcons will be looking to make history on the pitch once again with their first match scheduled to be played today, Thursday, July 25, 2024.
