Chelsea Football Club face a huge test as they prepare to take on Paris Saint-Germain( PSG) in the second leg of UEFA Champions League second round clash.
PSGThe Blues will be looking to write their name into the history books as they look to get past Paris Saint-Germain in the second leg of the round of 16 clash. Most football stakeholders has ruled out Chelsea from the competition and have tipped PSG to advance to the quarter-finals following the result of the first leg which ended 5-2 in favour of the defending Champions.
How can Chelsea beat PSG?
(1) Early Goals:
Chelsea come into this game with a three-goal deficit which means that there is no room to lie back or start the match on the back foot. Liam Rosenior must set up his team in a way that they must attack the match from the first minute till the end without any room for error at the back.
(2) Midfield battle
Chelsea must dominate possession and tempo in midfield to stop PSG from dictating the game. Players like Enzo Fernández and Moisés Caicedo will need to win duels, break up attacks, and quickly transition the ball forward. If Chelsea can control the midfield, they can limit PSG’s attacking rhythm.
(3) Cole Palmer:
The former Manchester City player has been a shadow of himself since the injury he suffered at the start of this season. However, this game is the most important for the Blues this season which means they will need Palmer to be at the best form of ghis career just like he was at the Club World Cup to stand anything chance of advancing to the quarter-finals.
(4) Contain PSG attack:
One of the biggest threats for PSG is Kylian Mbappé. Chelsea’s defense likely led by Trevoh Chalobah and Wesley Fofana must stay compact and avoid giving the likes of Ousmane Dembele behind the backline. Doubling up on him and cutting the supply from midfield will be crucial.
(5) Attention:
One of the major problems of Chelsea this season is their inability to remain focused for the entirety of the game. Rosenior has frowned at the fact that his team always loose concentration towards the end of the game which was the same thing that was replicated in the first leg at the Parc de Prince.
Prediction: Chelsea will qualify to the quarter-finals.
