In his first match in charge of Aston Villa, Unai Emery has set a new record with his first victory as the head coach of Villa against Manchester United. Aston Villa was ruthless in their 3-1 victory over Manchester United in the league; this saw Unai Emery join the elite list of Premier League managers that have defeated Manchester United in their first game.
Emery became the fourth manager to win his first match against Man Utd as the head coach of a club side. Other managers include Dave Bassett with Sheffield United (1992), José Mourinho with Chelsea (2004), and Alan Curbishley with West Ham (2006).
Goals from Leon Bailey, Lucas Digne and Jacob Ramsey secured the first three points for the new manager, who had replaced Steve Gerard at the side.
Emery, in a post-match conference, spoke about his side where he revealed:

"I think the players showed us they were hungry, they were feeling good emotions, thinking about our match today [in training] and they did a very good job," Emery said when asked about his first week in charge of Aston Villa.
They played in their positions and I want them to feel good playing with their characteristics and skills. The shape for me is not so important, but we tried to use the spaces where Manchester United maybe let us do our job.
