The news was confirmed in a statement released by UEFA's official Twitter account on Monday, December 13th, 2021. Football fans around the world complained about Manchester United not getting their ball back into the pot when it was mistakenly picked by the officials.
Following a technical problem with the software of an external service provider that instructs the officials as to which teams are eligible to play each other, a material error occurred in the draw for the UEFA Champions League Round of 16. As a result of this, the draw has been declared void and will be entirely redone at 15:00 CET.
The new round of 16 draws will take place at the same venue at 3 pm CET.
