Tottenham Hotspur are on the verge of completing one of the biggest transfers of the summer after agreeing a club-record deal to sign Sandro Tonali from Newcastle United.

The agreement is reportedly worth up to £100 million, with an initial fee of £92.5 million plus £7.5 million in performance-related add-ons. Tonali is expected to travel to London to undergo his medical before officially completing the move.

The Italian midfielder is believed to have been convinced by the opportunity to work under fellow Italian coach Roberto De Zerbi, who played a significant role in persuading him to join Spurs despite interest from other top European clubs.

If the deal is sealed the transfer will become the most expensive signing in Tottenham's history and represents another major statement of intent as the club continues its ambitious squad rebuild ahead of the new season. The sale would generate a substantial profit for Newcastle on the midfielder, who joined the Magpies from AC Milan in 2023.

Meanwhile, Tottenham fans will hope Tonali's arrival adds world-class quality and leadership to the heart of their midfield as they aim to challenge for major honours.
