Tuchel was speaking after the Blues hard-fought victory over West Ham United at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, April 24th, 2022. According to Tuchel, Rudiger confirmed to him that he wants to leave the club despite the effort to keep him.
He wants to leave the club. He informed me in a private talk. We gave everything but we could not fight anymore because of the actions. Without the sanctions we would at least be able to carry on fighting, but out hands are tied. We don't take it personally, it is his decision. It will be challenging but no matter how much I love him and how big a role he played, there will be Chelsea without Toni Rudiger and we will find solutions.’
Rudiger is in the final few weeks of his contract at the club and has rejected the fee of around £200,000 to £230,000 per week. Real Madrid are favourites to sign the player when the contract window opens in June 2022.
