Thomas Partey is expected to remain in Europe according to new club transfer update amidst his ongoing legal investigation.

Former Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey is reportedly on the verge of returning to La Liga, with a move to a new club in Villarreal nearing completion despite ongoing legal investigations following his departure from the Premier League side as a free agent earlier this summer.

Partey is currently facing serious legal issues. In July, he was charged with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault, relating to alleged incidents involving three women between 2021 and 2022.

The charges came just five days after his contract with Arsenal expired on June 30. The Ghanaian international has denied all allegations and is scheduled to appear before Westminster Magistrates’ Court on August 5, 2025.

Despite the ongoing legal proceedings, multiple reports indicate that Partey has already undergone a medical at Villarreal and is set to sign a two-year contract with the Spanish side. The opportunity to feature in the 2025/26 UEFA Champions League secured by Villarreal after finishing fifth in La Liga last season—was reportedly a key factor in Partey’s decision.

Partey originally joined Arsenal from Atlético Madrid in 2022 and became a pivotal figure in Mikel Arteta’s midfield. He made 167 appearances, scoring nine goals and providing seven assists, although recurring injuries hampered his consistency. Talks over a contract renewal were held but ultimately broke down, leading to his exit from the Emirates.

Now set to rejoin Spanish football, the Ghanaian midfielder is eyeing a fresh start with Villarreal, a club familiar with continental competition and one where he hopes to revive his career both on and off the pitch.
