Silva joined Chelsea from Paris Saint-Germain as a free agent in the summer of the 2020/21 season under former manager Blues' manager Frank Lampard. The news was confirmed on Chelsea's official website on Monday, January 3rd, 2022.
The 36-year-old was an integral part of the team that won the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Super Cup under Thomas Tuchel. Silva expressed his delight after signing the contract which will see him at the club for another season.
To play here with Chelsea is a real pleasure. I never thought I would play for three years here at this great club so I am very happy to stay for another season. I would also like to say to my family, the club, Marina and to Mr. Abrahamic for this opportunity. I will continue to give everything for this club and for the supporters, who have always been by my side since I arrived. It is amazing to have this relationship with the fans and not only that but the players, staff and the whole club. I am going to give everything to keep playing at this level in the most important league in the world.
Silva will hope he remains at this top form as the season continues and hope he will be able to represent Brazil at the FIFA World Cup this year that will be hosted in Qatar.
