Manchester City's midfielder, Rodri, has been ruled out of the rest of the 2024/25 season after picking up an injury in the game against Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium.

The Spanish international, who is in contention to win the Ballon d'Or award, which will be held next month ( October 2024), tore his anterior cruciate ligament during the game against the Gunners. The length of the injury was confirmed after tests on Monday, September 23, 2024, revealed that Rodri sustained a serious knee injury that would rule him out for the season.

What happened to Rodri against Arsenal?

Rodri suffered the injury after Arsenal's midfielder Thomas Partey had a bit of pressure on his knee area during a Manchester City corner kick, he went down in severe discomfort and was brought close to tears by the injury, despite leaving the pitch on his own feet with a stretcher present at the time.

However, according to reports from ESPN, the Spainish international is set for more tests on the injury, but ‘everything points towards’ an ACL injury, with the player ‘likely’ to undergo surgery in Barcelona.

The injury sustained by Rodri comes off the back of the player, commenting that football stars are close to going on strike over the growing demands placed on them due to the busy schedule for the players. The Spanish international played across 50 games for Manchester City alone last season before reporting Spain at the Euro 2024.

However , Manchester City are yet to release an official statement or comment on the player's situation.
