A new referee has been appointed to officiate the community shield fixture Man City vs Man United scheduled for Saturday.

Reports indicate that the English FA has made a change to the referee scheduled to officiate the upcoming Community Shield match, Man City vs Man United. Jarred Gillett will now officiate the match between Manchester United and Manchester City, replacing John Brooks, who was initially scheduled to take charge.

On Thursday, the FA released a statement announcing that Brooks would no longer be officiating the weekend’s traditional season opener between the two Manchester clubs. Gillett, who was originally assigned as the fourth official, will step up to referee the match. The change was necessitated by Brooks's injury, which forced him to withdraw just three days before the game.

Sam Barrott will take over Gillett's initial role as the fourth official. Adrian Holmes and Nick Greenhalgh will serve as Gillett’s assistants, while Peter Bankes will oversee VAR duties at Stockley Park, supported by Sian Massey-Ellis and Tim Robinson.

The highly anticipated Manchester derby, which serves as the curtain-raiser for the highly anticipated 2024/2025 season of English club football, will be played at Wembley on Saturday, August 10, 2024. Manchester United will then play Fulham in their Premier League opener on August 16, with Manchester City facing Chelsea two days later.
