Real Madrid has released an update concerning the injury to its first-choice goalkeeper, Thibaut Courtois.
The club confirmed in a statement that the Belgian international underwent successful surgery after he tore a ligament in training. Thibaut Courtois is expected to begin his recovery program very soon so he can be back to full fitness.
"Thibaut Courtois has successfully undergone surgery today to repair the torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee. He was operated on by Dr. Manuel Leyes, under the supervision of the Real Madrid Medical Services. Courtois will begin his recovery program in the coming days."
He left the training session on Thursday, August 10, 2023, after sustaining a potential ACL injury. According to reports from those present at the scene, the player was in tears as he was leaving the training ground.
Real Madrid have signed Chelsea's goalkeeper, Kepa Arrizabalaga on a season loan deal as a possible replacement for the Belgian.
