Manchester City's manager, Pep Guardiola has for the first time explained why Cole Palmer decided to join Chelsea Football Club.

The England U-21 international joined the Blues on the final day of the 2023 summer transfer window for £40 million. Pep Guardiola while speaking in a pre-match press conference against Chelsea confirmed that lack of playing time was the reason Cole Palmer left the Etihad Stadium.

After one or two years, he told me, I don’t want to play here, I said, Mahrez is leaving, you have a chance. He told me, no, I want to leave. I said, OK, leave. It's good for him. Good guy, really. Wish him all the best".

Palmer has been a huge part of Chelsea's success this season and has also taken the responsibility of taking penalties at the club.
