Nottingham Forest and Super Eagles full-back Olaoluwa Temitayo Aina is on the brink of signing a new contract that will see his wages significantly increased, according to reports from The Athletic.

The 28-year-old defender, who joined Forest in 2023 on a one-year deal with an optional second year, has been a key figure in the club’s impressive Premier League campaign this season.

Currently earning £40,000 per week, according to Capology, Aina is poised for a significant pay rise as Forest moves to reward his contributions and fend off interest from other clubs. After his contract with Torino expired, Aina opted to move to City Ground, and the decision proved mutually beneficial. Forest triggered the extension clause in May, securing his services until the summer of 2024. With just months remaining on his current deal, the club has acted swiftly to begin discussions to keep him beyond next summer.

The former Chelsea academy product has been pivotal for Forest, featuring in every league game this season, contributing a goal, and providing defensive solidity. His performances have reportedly caught the attention of Serie A heavyweights AC Milan. However, Nottingham Forest is confident of retaining Aina’s services, with the proposed new contract expected to reflect his value and ensure he remains a central part of Nuno Espírito Santo’s squad.

Sources indicate that the agreement is close to completion after weeks of negotiations. Milan, managed by Paulo Fonseca, may now be forced to look elsewhere as Forest moves decisively to secure their versatile defender.

The finalisation of the deal would not only represent a show of faith in Aina’s abilities but also a statement of intent for Forest as they continue their bid to cement their place among the Premier League’s top sides this season.
