Nigeria is set to play their final group stage fixture against Japan at the Olympic Games 2024, here is an answer to whether they will qualify for the quarter-finals.

With Nigeria set to take on Japan in their final game in the group stages of the football competition at the Olympic Games 2024, questions as to whether the Super Falcons can secure a quarter-final qualification ticket have been raised.

The Super Falcons of Nigeria were seeded in Group C at the football competition of the Olympics 2024, a group that had the biggest countries in women's football in Japan, Spain and Brazil.

There had been initial doubts as to how well the team would perform in their first Olympic Games outing in over 14 years. It is safe to say that although they have not won any fixture so far, they have managed to play what many have categorized as good football losing by a small margin of 1-0 in both fixtures against Brazil and Spain.

The narrow losing margin might have however handed Nigeria a lifeline going into the must-win fixture against Japan. The Super Falcons of Nigeria can still qualify for the quarterfinals of the Olympic Games 2024 if they defeat Japan in their final game of the group stage as the biggest loser.

Super Falcons head coach, Randy Waldrum, remained optimistic about his team's chances of advancing to the knockout stage. He noted that despite the previous results, they still had an opportunity to progress with a good performance against Japan.

“The way the matches have unfolded, we still needed a result against Japan and had the chance to go through, so whether we lose or draw, we still have that opportunity. If we beat Japan, depending on what happens in Canada’s group since they have six points, we could still advance,” Waldrum explained.
