The Nigeria Football Federation ( NFF) has debunked the news circulating in the media that the board contacted Herve Renard to take over the job as head coach of the Super Eagles.

BBC Presenter Oluwashina Okeleji confirmed on his official X account on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, that a member of the NFF reached out to him to debunk the news about Herve Renard. According to reports from the post, the official said the news kinking the French man to the Super Eagles was false.

What did NFF say about Herve Renard?

"This report is inaccurate. We’ve not contacted Renard or his reps.

Who is Herve Renard?

Herve Renard is a French professional football coach and former player who is the manager of the France women's national team. His record on the continent of Africa speaks for itself leading Zambia to victory in the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations and Ivory Coast in 2015.

He also wrote his name into the history books of Saudi Arabia by becoming the first manager in the country's history to win a game against Argentina at the FIFA World Cup, a feat that was achieved in Qatar.

However, the NFF needs to sort itself out quickly by appointing a new coach for the Super Eagles before the qualifying games of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations begin in September 2024.

Nigeria are currently second bottom of their 2026 World Cup qualifying group, with just three points, they are four points off the top two (Rwanda in first, South Africa second).
