Newcastle United are reportedly set to open talks with Brentford striker Yoane Wissa after dropping out on Eintracht Frankfurt’s Hugo Ekitike.

The Magpies were initially interested in signing Ekitike but decided to opt out following the interest of Liverpool in the deal. This latest update is the reason why Newcastle shifted their attention to Yaone Wissa whose contract with the Bees expire soon.

The news of Newcastle's proposed move for Wissa was confirmed on the official website of the Athletic on Thursday, July 17, 2025. According to reports both clubs are yet to speak on the proposed deal or even speak to the player.

The 28-year-old was the Premier League’s highest non-penalty goalscorer during the 2024/25 season, having scored times in 35 games. The contract of the Congolese expires in June 2026, with an option to extend by 12 months.

Former Brentford manager Thomas Frank, who brought Wissa to England and allowed him to grow into a top-level forward, has since moved from Brentford to Tottenham Hotspur along with three members of his backroom staff.

Captain Christian Norgaard has also joined Arsenal with Keith Andrews, the former midfielder and previously the club’s set-piece coach, appointed as Frank’s replacement last month.
