The list was dominated by Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain players, who had four players each. The notable omission from the list is Liverpool's Mohamed Salah, who has been in fine form for the Reds.
This is the first time FIFA will be bringing out a 23-man squad in 17 years, as against the 55-man squad that is usually released by the body.
According to the body, the goalkeeper, three defenders, three midfielders and three forward players with the highest number of votes will be selected for the World XI when the award goes down next month (January 2022), with the last spot assigned to the outfield player with the highest number of votes.
