It went from sweet to sour in the mouth of Liverpool supporters after Mohamed Salah confirmed that this would be his last season at the club as he sees out the final year of his current contract.
Mohamed Salah confirmed this news during a post-match interview after Liverpool's emphatic victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday, September 1, 2024. The 32-year-old scored one and assisted the other two as the Reds beat the Red Devils 3-0, making it three wins from three at the start of the Premier League season under new manager, Arne Slot.
He said,
I had a good summer, a long time to stay with myself and try to think positive, because as you know this is my last year in the club. I just want to enjoy it. I don’t want to think about it, but I feel I’m free to play football and we’ll see what can happen next year. To be fair I was coming to the game and said it could be the last time [at Old Trafford. Nobody in the club talked to me yet about contract, so I just think okay, I play my last season and see at the end of the season."
He was also asked if he would return to play at Old Trafford with another team.

He added,
"I don’t know with which club, but so far my last game with Liverpool. It is not up to me. Nobody talked to me from the club, but we will see.”
Salah has now scored on his last seven appearances at Old Trafford, a place he had described as his second home. The win puts Liverpool on nine points the same as Manchester City going into the first international break of the season.
