Former Chelsea head coach, Mauricio Pochettino could be on his way back to coaching just a few months after he left his position at Stamford Bridge.

The Athletic confirmed on its official website on Thursday, August 6, 2024, that the United States of America Men’s team have reached out to Mauricio Pochettino. According to reports, the federation was still considering multiple candidates as of last week, but the Argentine is seen by some as the favourite among the available options.

Pochettino has never managed a national team in every of his coaching career but has had plenty of success at club level. He helped Southampton finish in an eighth-place position in the Premier League in 2013. He also achieved record league finishes with Spurs, including a Champions League final appearance in 2019 which he lost to Liverpool and secured a Ligue 1 title with Paris Saint-Germain.

Pochettino recently led Chelsea to a sixth-place finish and European qualification before departing at the end of the 2023-24 season.Pochettino had worked alongside Matt Crocker, the sporting director of U.S. soccer, during his time as Southampton coach with Crocker leading the team's academy.

The relationship between both men would probably make Pochettino's transition into the United States national team easy if he gets the job.
