Sofyan Amrabat’s name has been on the lips of Manchester United fans for the entirety of the 2023 summer transfer window.
Manchester United confirmed the defender will wear the number 4 jersey on its official website on Tuesday, September 5, 2023. Sofyan Amrabat previously wore the number 34 jersey number in the last five seasons at Hellas Verona and Fiorentina.
The number was first worn by the club's legendary captain, Steve Bruce following the introduction of Premier League squad numbers in 1993/94. Others to have worn by the number are Owen Hargreaves, and the Argentine duo of Juan Sebastian Veron, Gabriel Heinze.
Manchester United paid €10million to Fiorentina in a loan deal which will see him stay at the club until June 2024. However, there is buy clause worth €20m plus €5m add-ons in the contract that is if the club want Sofyan to stay on long term.
Amrabat brought himself to the limelight during the 2022 FIFA World Cup which was hosted in Qatar. The midfielder was a key part of Morocco's success at the competition by leading them to the semi-finals, a feat achieved for the first time by an African country.
