Manchester United is reportedly set to announce Michael Carrick as its interim head coach of the club at the end of this current (2025/26) season.

The board decided to appoint Michael Carrick after the termination of Ruben Amorim's contract following a series of bad results at the club since he took over from Erik Ten Hag.

Carrick, who enjoyed a highly successful playing career at Old Trafford, has been part of the club’s coaching staff since retiring in 2018. United believe his deep understanding of the club’s culture and values will help maintain continuity as the season progresses.

The 43-year-old will oversee upcoming fixtures across domestic and European competitions, with the club stressing that the appointment is a short-term solution. Carrick previously served as interim manager in 2021, remaining unbeaten during that spell, and will be hoping to steady the team and deliver positive results once again.

As a player, Carrick was one of the Premier League’s most intelligent midfielders. He joined Manchester United in 2006 from Tottenham Hotspur and spent 12 years at Old Trafford, winning five Premier League titles, one UEFA Champions League, one FA Cup, and three League Cups.

He is known for his calmness on the ball, passing range, and tactical awareness, he was a key part of Sir Alex Ferguson’s most dominant teams. He also earned over 30 caps for England.
