Luis Enrique picks favourites to win 2025/26 UCL

The manager of Paris Saint-Germain Luis Enrique has shared his thoughts on the favourites for the 2025/26 UEFA Champions League, but as usual he refused to single out one clear winner.

He emphasized the unpredictable nature of Europe’s elite competition, insisting that the idea of “favourites” often means very little once the knockout stages begin. Enrique was making his opinion known during the pre-match press conference ahead of the crucial quater-final game against Liverpool.

Who did Enrique pick as UCL favourites?

The Spaniard also pointed out that football history is filled with examples of heavily backed teams falling short. He referenced past campaigns where sides tipped to go all the way were eliminated earlier than expected, reinforcing his belief that the Champions League is decided by fine margins rather than reputation.

He said,

"Last year Liverpool were favorites and who won? Paris Saint-Germain. There are no favorites at this stage. We’re not favorites”.

Despite downplaying the concept of favourites, Enrique did acknowledge that his own team, Paris Saint-Germain, have grown into genuine contenders following their recent European success. The French champions, now armed with experience and confidence, are no longer seen as outsiders but as a club capable of competing with the very best on a consistent basis.

Enrique also reserved praise for FC Barcelona, highlighting the Spanish giants as one of the strongest teams in Europe. He commended their playing style, structure, and pedigree in continental competitions, suggesting they have all the tools required to challenge for the title once again.
