Jorginho reveals why he left Arsenal

Former Italy midfielder Jorginho has opened up on why he decided to leave Arsenal FC, bringing clarity to a move that surprised some supporters.

Jorginho explained that his departure was largely influenced by his desire for more consistent playing time. While he remained a respected figure in the squad, Arsenal’s evolving midfield driven by younger, more dynamic profiles meant his role became increasingly limited under Mikel Arteta.

He also pointed to the natural cycle of a football career. At this stage, Jorginho is prioritizing opportunities where he can play regularly and maintain rhythm, rather than acting primarily as a rotational or leadership option from the bench.

He said,

“I want to feel alive and important for the team. When a player is not on the pitch, it’s hard to keep motivated. I felt I needed to go somewhere where I was going to play with joy."

Arsenal have gradually shifted toward a higher-intensity, physically demanding midfield setup, which slightly differs from Jorginho’s strengths as a deep-lying playmaker who dictates tempo rather than covering large spaces.

Which club does Jorginho play for now?

Jorginho joined Flamengo in June 2025 after leaving Arsenal FC, signing a multi-year deal and returning to his birth country after many years in European football.
