Manchester United is currently working hard to sign Lille's defender, Leny Yoro, as a replacement for Raphael Varane, who left the club last season (2023/24).

The Red Devils have reportedly agreed to pay £50 million for Leny Yoro after reaching a basic agreement with Ligue 1 side, Lille. However, reports are suggesting that Manchester United might not secure the player due to interest from Real Madrid.

Why does Lille want to sell Yoro?

Yoro is in the final year of his current contract, which expires at the end of the 2024/25 season. This summer transfer window is Lille's last opportunity to secure a significant fee for their star defender before running the risk of losing him for free next summer.

Why Manchester United might miss out on Leny Yoro's deal?

According to reports from France, Yoro is keen on joining Real Madrid. Negotiations between Real Madrid and Lille over a final transfer fee are also underway. If an agreement is not reached, Yoro is prepared to stay at Lille for another year, making him available to join Real Madrid as a free agent.

As a result, Manchester United must offer the player an irresistible deal that would make him turn down Real Madrid. United is also exploring the possibility of signing Matthijs de Ligt from Bayern Munich and Jarrad Branthwaite from Everton.

Transfer news expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed on his official X account on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, that Real Madrid is confident about signing Yoro, as he is their top priority.
