France has filed a legal complaint regarding racist chants made by several Argentina players following their Copa America victory.
After Argentina's 1-0 win over Colombia in the Copa America final, a video surfaced showing Enzo Fernandez and his teammates chanting derogatory lyrics about the French national team. The chant included lines such as: "They play for France, but their parents are from Angola. Their mother is from Cameroon, while their father is from Nigeria. But their passport says French."
The video, filmed on a bus, was captured towards the end of an Instagram live session before Fernandez was told to stop recording. Despite the video being viewed over a million times on social media, the Argentine Football Federation has yet to respond.
In a statement, FFF president Philippe Diallo condemned the remarks: "The president of the French Football Federation, Philippe Diallo, strongly condemns the unacceptable racist and discriminatory remarks made against the French team players in a song sung by Argentina team players and supporters after their Copa America victory, which was broadcast in a video on social media."
Due to the severity of these remarks, which are contrary to the values of sport and human rights, Diallo has decided to address the issue directly with his Argentine counterpart and FIFA. Additionally, he has filed a legal complaint for racial and discriminatory insults.
