Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez has publicly stated that French defender Ibrahima Konaté will be his first signing of the summer if he is re-elected in the club's presidential elections this weekend.

Pérez made the announcement during an interview with Spanish media, declaring that Konaté will play for Real Madrid next season. He hinted that the club will sign more high-profile defensive reinforcements are also on the way.

The 27-year-old centre-back is available on a free transfer after leaving Liverpool at the end of his contract on June 30, 2026. Reports in Spain suggest that Real Madrid have already reached an agreement with the player, with only the formal announcement remaining.

Konaté would arrive with significant experience, having made over 180 appearances for Liverpool and winning the Premier League, FA Cup and League Cup titles during his time at Anfield. The move comes after a difficult season for Real Madrid CF, who fell short in both domestic and European competitions.

The Madrid president even suggested that Konaté "will not be the only great defender" arriving at the club this summer. Pérez has also promised supporters a major rebuilding project ahead of the 2026/27 season.

Alongside the expected arrival of Konaté, he has hinted at further signings and even the return of legendary coach José Mourinho as part of his election campaign. With the presidential vote approaching, the announcement of Konaté is being viewed as a statement of intent from the most successful president in Real Madrid's history.
