The Super Falcons of Nigeria started their campaign at the ongoing 2023 Women's World Cup hosted in New Zealand and Australia on an impressive note.
The African representatives were able to hold their ground against Olympic Champions, Canada in the game which was played in the early hours of Friday, July 21, 2023. Nigeria was able to stand the tests of the Canadian women including their penalty which was saved by the goalkeeper, Chiamaka Nnadozie.
Another major talking point of the game was the red card issued to Deborah Abiodun was adjudged for a nasty tackle on Ashley Lawrence after a review from the video assistant referee. This result means Nigeria are still unbeaten in the Women's World Cup against Canada.
